On Thursday October13, 2022, the Principal Judge, Hon. Justice Dr Flavian Zeija presided over the swearing in ceremony of ten members of the 19th Board of Surveyors Registration Board (SRB) at High Court Kampala. He challenged them to contribute to the national efforts toward proper land management in the country.
"I call upon you to join hands with your colleagues at the Ministry to promote effective and efficient land management across the country." he said. Adding that they ought to be true to their oath as it is a covenant to which they bound themselves bylaw and before God as a divine witness.
Dr. Zeija pointed out the consistent outcry about the quality of land surveys in which many surveyors are linked to orchestrating land frauds across the country which has led to land conflicts which in turn clogs the court system.
"We have many instances of the same land having different survey reports leading to creation of overlapping titles which is a big challenge," he said.
He further urged the board members to enforce discipline and ethical behavior in the profession.
According to the Minister of State and Urban Development, Hon. Kania Mario Obiga, the Surveyors Registration Board is mandated to regulate and control the profession of surveyors. He thus emphasized the need to ensure proper regulation, inspection and control of all the land surveying activities professionally.
Ms Dorcus Okalany, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Lands Housing and Urban Development in her congratulatory remarks urged the new board members to serve diligently for the betterment of the Country.
The Ministry has embarked on several interventions which are aimed at among others enhancing the surveying profession and restoring confidence in the land sector, she revealed.
